About us

We are a husband and wife team rearing high welfare pigs in Tolpuddle, Dorset. 

Hill Barn Farm started when Ben bought Sophie three saddleback weaners whilst she was on maternity leave with their son, Ralph. From here its grown and grown and we now have over 100 pigs onsite. 

We offer both pork sales & livestock sales. 

Ben is a fifth generation farmer whos lived in Dorset his whole life, with a couple of adventures to Sussex & Australia to experience life on different farms. He has been back working on the family farm for over 10 years now. If you live locally, you’ve probably seen him driving around in his John Deere tractor. 

Sophie, originally from Warwickshire and a farmers granddaughter, studied Food & Consumer Studies at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire before commencing a graduate career in Gloucestershire working in a beef abattoir. From here she moved to Dorset and went onto work for the Food Standards Agency. Formally as a Meat Hygiene Inspector, but now she works for the Agency in the Incidents & Resilience department. 

All our pork is bred, born & reared on the farm by us. We have a mix of breeds on the farm, including Large Whites, Oxford Sandy & Black, Saddlebacks, British Lop & Bluebacks.  The pigs are fed on rolled wheat and barley which is grown by Ben on his parents farm in Puddletown.
